Submission Guidelines

before you send your work, take a few minutes to read this.

01 / ELIGIBILITY

Who can submit?

Eirene is a youth magazine, and submissions are open to creators aged 12-25.

You do not need to have been published before, have a large following, or have a professional portfolio. We welcome young creators who have something they want to share.

02 / ACCEPTED WORK

What can you submit?

POETRY — Submit up to 5 poems in one document. There is currently no specified length limit for individual poems.

PROSE — Submit 1–2 pieces, with each piece up to 1,500 words. We accept fiction, short stories, essays, creative nonfiction, and memoirs. We are not currently accepting novel excerpts.

ARTICLES — We welcome thoughtful writing on ideas, experiences, culture, creativity, youth, society, and other subjects relevant to our readers. Your article must be your own original work.

ART + PHOTOGRAPHY — Send high-resolution images of drawings, paintings, digital art, illustrations, mixed-media work, or original photography. Include the work title, your name, and relevant details.

SHORT FILMS — Submit according to the requirements in the submission form, with a title, short description, and relevant content warnings.

OTHER CREATIVE WORK — If your work does not fit one of these forms, you are welcome to contact us before submitting.

03 / BEFORE YOU SUBMIT

The work must be yours

ORIGINALITY — Your submission must be completely your own work. We do not accept plagiarism or work generated by AI. If your work was created collaboratively, clearly identify the other creators.

PREVIOUSLY UNPUBLISHED — We do not accept previously published work, including work that has appeared in other magazines, journals, websites, blogs, online publications, social media, or other public platforms.

SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS — You may submit the same work to other publications while it is being considered by Eirene. If it is accepted elsewhere, email Eirene as soon as possible so we can update your submission.

CONTENT — We do not accept hate speech, extreme violence, sexual content, or excessive profanity. If sensitive material is important to the work, include an appropriate content or trigger warning.

LANGUAGE — Eirene primarily publishes work in English. If your work is written in another language, submit an English translation alongside the original. If accepted, we will publish both versions together.

04 / FORMAT

Make it easy to read

WRITTEN WORK — Send written submissions as DOC, DOCX, or PDF. DOC or DOCX is preferred. Use a standard readable 12 pt font.

POETRY — Single-space poetry. If submitting multiple poems, place all of them in the same document.

PROSE + ARTICLES — Double-space prose and articles.

IMPORTANT — Do not submit writing as JPG, JPEG, PNG, screenshots, or photos of handwritten pages. Writing must be submitted as a DOC, DOCX, or PDF.

VISUAL WORK — Submit clear, high-resolution files that are not heavily compressed. Make sure you are the creator or have permission to submit, the file is clearly named, and you include the title, your name, and relevant details.

SHORT FILMS — Provide the film title, creator’s name, short description, video file or requested link, relevant content warnings, and permission to use any included music, footage, photographs, or other material.

05 / SUBMISSION PROCESS

From work to review

01 — READ / Read these guidelines carefully before preparing your submission.
02 — PREPARE / Make sure your work meets our requirements and is ready to be reviewed.
03 — SUBMIT / Complete the submission form and upload your work.
04 — REVIEW / Our team will review your submission. Because Eirene is run by young people, please allow us enough time to consider it thoughtfully.
05 — RESPONSE / You will receive a response once a decision has been made. Submitting does not guarantee publication.

06 / WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Waiting for a response?

Our response time varies depending on the number of submissions we receive, but please allow 1–2 months for our team to review your work. If you have not heard from us after 9 weeks, contact us with the title of your submission, the name used on the form, and the email address provided.

Every submission is considered for its originality, creativity, writing or artistic quality, relevance to the magazine, fit with an issue’s theme, and overall presentation. Please do not send repeated emails before the stated response period has passed.

Some Eirene issues may have a specific theme. You are welcome to create work inspired by it, but your interpretation does not need to be literal. We are interested in different perspectives and unexpected interpretations.

07 / BEFORE YOU PRESS SUBMIT

A final check
